Pink Roses for Valentine's Day - Celebrate on a Budget

Not everyone is going on a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway this year.

I totally get it. It’s expensive.

I will be staying home for Valentine’s Day this year, which is totally fine by me! If you’re feeling a little bummed out by staying home for Valentine’s Day this year, don’t be! It’s not like romantic getaways are only acceptable when Valentine’s Day rolls around. Give yourself on opportunity to save up, and maybe you and your significant other can travel to one of these five romantic destinations!

If you’re staying at home but still want to have a romantic night, here are some awesome tips!

1. Stay In

You could go out for a fancy dinner and eat way too much food, or you could opt for a romantic, candle light dinner for two at home.

Why sit in a crowded restaurant full of other couples if you can avoid it?

If you have children, send them to Grandma’s for the night, or make other suitable arrangements.

You technically don’t even have to cook if you don’t want to. A lot of restaurants offer curbside service now. So call up your favorite restaurant and place an order to pick up! You don’t even have to deal with the crowd. Take it back to your house and voila! You have a magnificent meal that you didn’t have to cook or clean up after!

But, if you’re feeling up to it and want to save some money, Italian food is always a great idea! Maybe you and your significant other can enjoy your spaghetti Lady and the Tramp style! Okay, maybe not, but I’m sure it’ll still be romantic!

2. Exchange Handmade Gifts

No, I don’t mean a handmade gift created by someone halfway across the world. I mean a gift made by YOU!

Don’t be scared if you’re not crafty.

I’m not crafty either, and I have managed to make my fair share of handmade gifts!

There are tons of great ideas and tutorials on Pinterest.

If you’re seriously resisting right now, it’s okay. A simple letter telling your significant other how much he/she means to you is always a great gift!

Just make sure that you’re both on the same page about exchanging handmade gifts that way there’s no awkwardness.

3. Rose Petals

Rose petals could make a garbage can look romantic. Seriously.

I would definitely recommend being creative with them. They might be a little pricey considering the fact that they’re just petals, but if you’re budget allows for it, they might be a great addition to your table setting for dinner.

But, they can be used to make any space more romantic…so get creative!

4. Watch a Movie

Cuddle up together and watch a great movie with a glass (or two) of wine.

Enjoy each other’s company.

If you’re not sure what to watch, can I suggest a romantic comedy? After all, the day is all about love!

You can even make movie snacks! Make fancy popcorn with some Valentine’s Day themed M&Ms.

Maybe you could even make some heart-shaped sugar cookies to decorate together and enjoy during the movie! Just spit-balling here.

5. Go For a Romantic Walk

Go for a romantic stroll in the park. Any pretty park will do!

Live by a lake, river, or the ocean? Go watch the sunset! Is there anything more romantic?

If it’s cold where you are, bring a couple thermoses of hot chocolate!

And don’t forget to hold hands. 😉

6. Surprise Your Significant Other

Surprises are always loved and appreciated!

They don’t have to be big or expensive either.

Surprise your significant other with a bottle of their favorite wine. You could make their favorite dish. Take them to their favorite coffee shop. The possibilities are endless!

Surprises are always sexy.

7. Get a Hotel Room

You don’t have the money to spend on a weekend getaway. But you still might be able to getaway.

Book a nice hotel room in your own city.

It sounds weird. It also sounds like a waste of money, but it’s not.

Staying in a hotel room gives you both the feeling of going on a getaway without actually spending a ton of money.

In the hotel room, you can order room service or go to a nearby restaurant.

When you settle in for the night, you can open a bottle of wine or champagne and just relax and enjoy each other’s company!

8. Just Be Thoughtful

You say “I love you” all the time. But you need to show your significant other how much they mean to you. This means you need to be thoughtful.

Think about planning a date that they will love.

If your significant other is planning the date, make them their favorite dessert for them to enjoy that night or later.

The best part about being thoughtful is that the possibilities are absolutely endless!

Think about what your significant other likes and brainstorm how you can incorporate it.
